Family and Resident Reviews
Christine Wong
North Point, Hong Kong
My mother settled in far more quickly than I expected. By the second week she was joining the morning walk and telling me about the other residents over the phone. Wai-Ling and her team are very attentive β they noticed small things about her that I had missed myself.

We used the Transition Stay for my father before committing to anything longer-term. It was a good decision. The staff shared their observations with us openly β not just what went well, but also what they thought he needed. That honest approach helped us enormously in deciding what came next.

My grandmother has been at Bauhinia Lodge for nearly two years. She speaks warmly of Ka-Fai, who leads the walks. She says she feels like a person there β not a patient. That is exactly what we hoped for when we were looking.

The Walking and Wellness Group has made a real difference for my uncle. He lives alone nearby and was becoming quite withdrawn. Now he has four mornings a week to look forward to and a small group he genuinely enjoys spending time with. I notice he is more energetic on the other days too.

Choosing a home for an elderly parent is not easy. What helped us most with Bauhinia Lodge was how they communicated. From the first enquiry call to the Transition Stay, we were never left wondering. Small updates, honest conversations β it gave us confidence.

My father is a quiet man who finds change difficult. I was worried. But the team at Bauhinia Lodge took their time with him. They did not push him into activities or overwhelm him with new faces all at once. Three months on, he is doing well β and that is more than I had hoped for initially.

Three Family Stories
The Situation
A Family at a Crossroads
Mrs Yip's three children had been managing her care between them for two years. As her need for daily support grew, the arrangement became difficult to sustain alongside their own work and family commitments.
The Approach
Starting With a Transition Stay
The family arranged a two-week Transition Stay. Mrs Yip arrived cautiously, but was met by staff who took the time to understand her routines and preferences from the first morning.
The Outcome
Comfort Found, Decision Made
By the end of the stay, Mrs Yip was comfortable with the home and the staff felt confident about what she needed. The family moved to a permanent arrangement with far more clarity than before the stay began.
"The staff didn't just tell us she was fine. They described what she enjoyed, what she found difficult, and what they thought would help. That level of honesty was exactly what we needed." β Mrs Yip's daughter
The Situation
An Active Man, Quietly Withdrawing
Mr Fong, 74, had retired and was living alone in Causeway Bay. He was physically well but had gradually become less active and more isolated over the previous year.
The Approach
Joining the Walking Group
His daughter suggested the Walking and Wellness Group as a way to bring some structure and company back into his week. He joined with some reluctance and was given space to find his own pace.
The Outcome
A Regular Fixture
After six weeks, Mr Fong was one of the first to arrive each morning. He had formed a friendship with two other participants, and his daughter noticed a marked change in his overall mood and energy.
"He tells me about the walk every time I call. He knows the routes, he knows the others, he knows which tea he prefers afterwards. It has given him something to belong to." β Mr Fong's daughter
The Situation
Moving to Hong Kong to Be Near Family
Mrs Leung, 81, moved from Guangzhou to be closer to her son's family in Hong Kong. She did not know the city well and found the transition disorienting at first.
The Approach
A Permanent Place to Belong
She moved into the Stone Garden Residence. Staff were careful to help her build familiarity slowly β with the home, the routines, and the other residents β without any sense of hurry.
The Outcome
Rooted and at Ease
A year later, Mrs Leung considers Bauhinia Lodge her home in Hong Kong. She joins the dim sum outing every Sunday and has become a warm presence in the dining room each morning.
"She tells me she feels at home there. For someone who found the move so unsettling, those words mean a great deal to us as a family." β Mrs Leung's son
